Taught 2 Zumba routines at the Bea Hive

Last night, I had a chance to co-teach a Zumba© sister’s class at The Bea Hive in Buena Park. It was an hour away but it was great practice for me. I did 2 songs – “Bad Romance” and “Calabria“. I was nervous because it was a BIG class – at least 30 students) but everyone was so welcoming and had a smile on their faces and they were cheering me on! It turned out wonderful – truly a positive experience.

I co-teach again on May 8, 2010 when my friend hosts a Zumba-thon for 1 1/2 hours – I’ll be doing the same 2 songs plus another one. I can’t wait!

Working on Scheduling Classes

I have met with a studio owner and have discussed the possibility of renting out her studio for classes. The meeting went very well and I am eager to get started. For now, I am hoping to teach 2 morning classes (Mondays and Thursdays) and 2 evening classes (Wednesdays and Fridays). I will post as soon as class schedule is definite.

In the mean time, I got some pictures from the Zumba© Certification that I went to – I am just sharing one as the other ones were a bit blurry.

Can you see which one I am? (It’s like … “Where’s Waldo?”) I am the one in the middle “kind-of” – actually to the right of the middle – lol – wearing a white bandana. As you can see, there were a lot of us in the training. It was a FUN filled day of ZUMBA©.

Got certified!

Yay, I am finally certified to teach Zumba© Fitness Classes. I went for certification yesterday and it was a long 8-hour workshop. My body is sore from all the dancing and exercising but I am happy I did it – I am happy I survived.

We learned the basic steps – Merengue, Salsa, Cumbia and Reggaeton – including variations – both directional and rhythmic variations and how to make the movements a bit more intense to achieve the most fitness benefit. There is A LOT to digest. Luckily, the workshop fee included instructional videos and music we can use for our classes too.

I enjoyed the workshop. It was FULL of energy – you can feel it around the room. There were more than 50 fitness enthusiasts. We were even given an opportunity to choreograph an exercise routine – everyone was so creative with their moves. I’m glad I brought 4 bottles of water and packed a healthy lunch and snacks – if not, I would have died (no – not really … but, I’m glad I didn’t have to worry about what to drink and eat during the break).

Now, it’s just a matter of getting classes scheduled and working on a playlist and choreography for my first class. *Whew* Just thinking about it seems exhausting – but I’m OK with that.

My friend and fellow Zumba© instructor invited me to a special 1 1/2 hour Zumba© Workshop that she is hosting in Buena Park this Saturday, May 8 – and am so excited and psyched. She asked me to lead a couple of songs. This certainly would be great practice for me.

In seven days …

I am a bit excited … no, wait change that … I am sooooo excited. I go for Zumba© certification in seven days. It is quite a ways away – in fact it’s a couple hour drive so I have to make sure to leave early. Luckily, my hubby is driving me and him and the boys will make a nice day out of it while I work my butt-off for the full day. I gotta remember to pack a healthy lunch, wear comfy work out clothes and be ready to sweat. I am not sure if I will be able to take photos but I will try. My Zumba© friend also told me to make sure to warm up and stretch good so I don’t injure myself.

Well, I’m sure the days will roll quicker and before I know it … I will be ready to start teaching classes!
